I read this for my english class and I'm not the type of person who hates on books but this particular book was impossible to read.
I would not say this book is scary, it is mostly mystery that will get you thinking. So I would recommend this book to people who love mysteries and creepy storylines that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
My daughter is really into this series and loves to read all the books. I bought the first 6 books in this series for our 10 yr old grandaughter!
She is an avid book reader and enjoyed all 6 books! Now I need to get her the rest so she can complete the series!

I really thought that the book was really good because it had a lot of dramatic situations. I would probably choose like.

For most of the history of the Book of the Dead there was no defined order or structure. The spells in the Book of the Dead depict Egyptian beliefs about the nature of death and the afterlife.
The Book of the Dead is a vital source of information about Egyptian beliefs in this area. One aspect of death was the disintegration of the various kheperu , or modes of existence.
Mummification served to preserve and transform the physical body into sah , an idealised form with divine aspects; the Book of the Dead contained spells aimed at preserving the body of the deceased, which may have been recited during the process of mummification.
The ka , or life-force, remained in the tomb with the dead body, and required sustenance from offerings of food, water and incense. In case priests or relatives failed to provide these offerings, Spell ensured the ka was satisfied.
It was the ba , depicted as a human-headed bird, which could "go forth by day" from the tomb into the world; spells 61 and 89 acted to preserve it. An akh was a blessed spirit with magical powers who would dwell among the gods.
The nature of the afterlife which the dead person enjoyed is difficult to define, because of the differing traditions within Ancient Egyptian religion.
In the Book of the Dead , the dead were taken into the presence of the god Osiris , who was confined to the subterranean Duat.
There are also spells to enable the ba or akh of the dead to join Ra as he travelled the sky in his sun-barque, and help him fight off Apep.
There are fields, crops, oxen, people and waterways. The deceased person is shown encountering the Great Ennead , a group of gods, as well as his or her own parents.
While the depiction of the Field of Reeds is pleasant and plentiful, it is also clear that manual labour is required. For this reason burials included a number of statuettes named shabti , or later ushebti.
The path to the afterlife as laid out in the Book of the Dead was a difficult one. The deceased was required to pass a series of gates, caverns and mounds guarded by supernatural creatures.
Their names—for instance, "He who lives on snakes" or "He who dances in blood"—are equally grotesque.
These creatures had to be pacified by reciting the appropriate spells included in the Book of the Dead ; once pacified they posed no further threat, and could even extend their protection to the dead person.
If all the obstacles of the Duat could be negotiated, the deceased would be judged in the "Weighing of the Heart" ritual, depicted in Spell The deceased was led by the god Anubis into the presence of Osiris.
There, the dead person swore that he had not committed any sin from a list of 42 sins , reciting a text known as the "Negative Confession".
Maat was often represented by an ostrich feather, the hieroglyphic sign for her name. If the scales balanced, this meant the deceased had led a good life.
Anubis would take them to Osiris and they would find their place in the afterlife, becoming maa-kheru , meaning "vindicated" or "true of voice".
This scene is remarkable not only for its vividness but as one of the few parts of the Book of the Dead with any explicit moral content.
The judgment of the dead and the Negative Confession were a representation of the conventional moral code which governed Egyptian society.
For every "I have not John Taylor points out the wording of Spells 30B and suggests a pragmatic approach to morality; by preventing the heart from contradicting him with any inconvenient truths, it seems that the deceased could enter the afterlife even if their life had not been entirely pure.
A Book of the Dead papyrus was produced to order by scribes. They were commissioned by people in preparation for their own funeral, or by the relatives of someone recently deceased.
They were expensive items; one source gives the price of a Book of the Dead scroll as one deben of silver, perhaps half the annual pay of a labourer.
In one case, a Book of the Dead was written on second-hand papyrus. Most owners of the Book of the Dead were evidently part of the social elite; they were initially reserved for the royal family, but later papyri are found in the tombs of scribes, priests and officials.
Towards the beginning of the history of the Book of the Dead , there are roughly 10 copies belonging to men for every one for a woman. The dimensions of a Book of the Dead could vary widely; the longest is 40m long while some are as short as 1m.
The scribes working on Book of the Dead papyri took more care over their work than those working on more mundane texts; care was taken to frame the text within margins, and to avoid writing on the joints between sheets.
Books were often prefabricated in funerary workshops, with spaces being left for the name of the deceased to be written in later. The text of a New Kingdom Book of the Dead was typically written in cursive hieroglyphs , most often from left to right, but also sometimes from right to left.
The hieroglyphs were in columns, which were separated by black lines — a similar arrangement to that used when hieroglyphs were carved on tomb walls or monuments.

A fairly quick, interesting read. The story is believable and made me want to checkout more titles in the Poison Apple series.
Which Indian River owns- This totally bites! Jul 26, Amy added it. Casey plans to spend her whole summer with her friend, Jillian. They plan to go shopping, spend time at the beach, and get boyfriends.
They bought a real fixer-upper home in New Hampshire and plan to spend the whole summer there. Casey is really bummed. As accidents continue to happen to Casey, the more frustrated her parents get.
Casey finds a diary where a girl from the s shows that the dreams that are happening to Casey were similar to what the girl had.
What keeps causing the accidents? Is the girl haunting the house? I definitely sympathized with Casey. I think this is definitely one of the better Poison Apple books.
I liked the introduction to Erik. I though he added a fun element to the story. Nov 23, Jan rated it really liked it Shelves: Casey is afraid of pretty much everything.
She believes every scary story that she hears. So when her family moves to their new home in the country, Casey is convinced that it is haunted.
Afterall, the local folks say it is. Her parents are less than helpful and think that its just her overactive imagination. But this time Casey is right.
There is a ghost. Who will believe her? This was a really good book for its type. No it is not great literature, but it is not intended to be.
It is suspenseful Casey is afraid of pretty much everything. It is suspenseful and a little scary. Casey is a likable character. The book has a lot to say about facing your fears.
And yes for once there really is a supernatural force at work, not just some lame explanation like so many of these book.
I would recommend this book to older kids and tweens. Mar 05, Jenn Doyle rated it liked it Shelves: So this was another book my daughter wanted me to read.
Th So this was another book my daughter wanted me to read. The cover art is great and will probably lead more young readers to The Dead End.

The house has no electrical power, no landline and she has no reception on her cell either. As soon as Casey enters the house she feels that something is not right.
She hears inexplicable noises, things are moving on their own and she has vivid dreams every night. Casey gets scared easily and likes to stay on the safe side.
She feels watched all the time and she has no idea how to deal with a possible ghost. The writing suddenly stops and Casey tries to find people in town who might have known what happened to Millie.
Is Millie the ghost she keeps hearing? The Dead End is a chilling story about a haunted house. I think secluded houses in the woods are so scary and I would never buy one, let alone live in one.
Casey is very easy to connect with, even though this story is written for teenagers I still felt close to her and I read The Dead End in one sitting.
May 19, Ellen Hamilton rated it it was amazing. I really, really liked it! What about the funny things that were happenin I really, really liked it!
I was so unsettled, so horrified Did it get stuck or locked somehow? Really spooky, creepy, sad, and relatable. I loved Casey and Millie. And maybe Eric Greer.

Feb 24, Tera Langley rated it it was amazing. Aug 03, Katie Fitzgerald rated it really liked it Shelves: Casey Slater and her best friend, Jillian, have a lot of plans for their summer before seventh grade.
Unusual and dangerous things keep happening to Casey. I was uncertain for much of the book whether the supernatural events Casey experienced were going to turn out to have a logical explanation or not.
Beyond that, this book followed the course of a typical ghost story, with just the right number of chills and thrills.
Sep 28, Katia rated it it was amazing. This was an amazing and enjoyable book! Honestly I never used to like reading, I would only do it because I had to!
But this book really changed me. This book is a bout a girl Casey and her parents, they travel to a new city just for the summer.
They bought an old old old house that everybody feared. O This was an amazing and enjoyable book! One day Casey went up to the attic and found a trunk that was locked but now unlocked all by itself, she opened it and found an old diary written in She read every single page and the person that wrote it was a girl names Millie.
Millie stopped writing in her diary after her birthday party which made Casey wonder why. She met a boy named Erik and together they solved all the mysteries with a little help of an old man.
Everything that happened to Millie happened the exact same to Casey. Since Millie died in that house her spirit never left it.
So Millie never wanted to hurt Casey or her family, she just wanted to save them. Thanks to Millie Casey and her family were saved from the danger that house had to offer Feb 11, Aima rated it it was amazing.
The word "baby" is nearly at the end of every sentence. Or "love", "babe", even "darling. The end of this book is absolutely stupid in the highest form.
It tries way to be hard to be Romeo and Juliet in the end. Even the way that Gina is depicted is genetically impossible!
It was just awful. Dead End is so much more than just a sappy teen romance. As always, Jason Myers did it again and left me feeling like I was a character in the book.
I think "Dead End" is Myers most powerful book so far. The love between the characters is undeniable. The way they react in the situations make me question how I would react.
Everything was so raw, unedited, uncensored, and beautifully written. The metaphors, word choice, pacing, and plot made it an amazing book.
The story was so original, too. I am amaz As always, Jason Myers did it again and left me feeling like I was a character in the book.
I am amazed that he is on a book contract and can just churn a book like this out. The thing I noticed about this book compared to the other ones, too, is that there was not a lot of partying.
There was just the Beau and his friend partying briefly, but after that the focus was on love-- which was a nice switch up.
Once again, Myers has left me amazed. Jan 21, Christine Murray rated it it was amazing. Probably one of the best books I ever read! I read this book a couple of months ago and I still think about the characters and the events that happened.
This story is one of the most memorable that I came across so far. When it came to the characters, I felt like I could truly understand them and felt what they were feeling.
Very well delevoped and different personalities. I also have never felt so many emotions. Jason Myers was to establish emotions from great anger to blind love and deep despe Probably one of the best books I ever read!
Jason Myers was to establish emotions from great anger to blind love and deep desperation to happiness. However, this book is NOT ment for "virgin" eyes.
Some things would be found disturbing to younger readers. This book is more ideal for teens in High School. I could go on forever about how great I found it: This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.
To view it, click here. It is easily one of the worst books I have read. The writing is terrible. It is gritty and edgy, but without any grasp on reality.
Like a horrid teen soap, not something with some weight that people wanna watch. No this is a gag-me-with-a-spoon after school special meets Lifetime only without the heart or moral compass.
One wonders who the audience is? Who are we supposed to root for? One would think we could feel sympathy for Gina, the girl who is raped, then murders her attacker, then is raped again, then kills herself.
But the author treats her like such a slut that I felt more sympathy for him. Like, does he think this is how women act? Are they ready to just start screwing again after being brutally raped?
I mean, seriously, what happened to Evans that his characters behave this way? I mean, I almost stopped after 5 pages. Then I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Have some respect for women dude. So why did I keep reading? You will regret either choice. Sep 03, Alyssa rated it did not like it. This book is good.
I will give it that. But this is most definitely not a young adult book. This book would be hardcore for anyone still in required schooling.
As a thirteen year old, I was shocked by the sexual acts that happened. The violent swearing also surprised me.
I started and finished this book in 4 hours, not because I planned to, but because I was too scared not to.
This book is gruesome and details horrible things. There is blood and gore and despair. I would NOT recommend this book This book is good.
I would NOT recommend this book to any teenager. I would consider it maybe a pornographic novel or detailed book on how to kill or manhunt people.
I honestly feel like this book took a good chunk of my innocence from me. Besides the gruesome story and horrific pornography, I rather liked the charecterizations.
The plotline could have been mellowed and this could have made a very nice YA book. But the main topic was death, death, sex, death, money, sex, death and corruption.
I finished the book at 1 am or so, and finally managed to sleep at 3 am, despite my fear. Recommended to Dylan by: View all 12 comments.
Aug 15, Brady Crocker rated it it was amazing. Jason Myers is a pretty good author. Although this story is like super dark, its a good story, "the mission" was my favorite by Jason Myers.
Guess what I found? I could relate to certain aspects of the book. Amazingly written, great pace. Apr 22, Shea rated it really liked it.
This book is easily one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It begins with the average lives of two young people who have fallen in love- although, in my opinion, the author should have created a more developed relationship in the beginning have the two be dated longer before the story begins - and they both are headed off to college soon.
Their strong connection is undeniable, and the characters are very well portrayed. When tragedy strikes, the two are on the run. The tragedy that oc This book is easily one of the most powerful books I have ever read.
The tragedy that occurs leaves the reader with feelings of hatred and despair. I got very into this book, and felt as though I was right there watching it all.
I am not too sure why all books written by this author seem to have overall negative reviews from readers; his raw use of words without censoring and descriptions is a signature move from the author, and anybody who complains about that should steer away from books written by him.
I happen to appreciate it. It took me one day to read this book. I simply could not put it down. I needed to know what happened in the end, because it was driving me mad.
I wanted to know what happened to the characters and if they would end up having a happily ever after. The light hearted should also keep away from this book.
It is extremely mature, and handles matters that some may not be able to endure reading. I will admit, I cried countless times throughout this novel.
It was extremely powerful and hit straight home. Oct 30, Kelsey Trinkner rated it really liked it Shelves: I love Jason Myers.
I love his work, though this is only the third book by him I have read. I intend to read his final book next quarter. Anyway, I liked this book because it kept moving.
He does a great job of keeping the reader interesting. I also liked how this book was written. The other books I have read by him were both narrated in first person.
However, this book was narrated in third person. I also liked how every now and then, there would be a short chapter, narrated in first person, ab I love Jason Myers.
I also liked how every now and then, there would be a short chapter, narrated in first person, about the two main characters and their thoughts and emotions.
I thought these were very good for understanding the background between Dru and Gina. It also allows the reader to get inside their minds. This book was not difficult to read for me.
This book went by rather fast. On every single page, something would happen. I never wanted to put this book down. I read it in a few days. Though, some of the subject matter in this book is not for all people, I would recommend it to mature high schoolers and anyone older.
Sep 21, Courtney rated it it was amazing Shelves: Love at first sight, thats how it was for Dru and Gina. With a past with matt Gina is terrifed of the things he may do but decides to take him up on his offer for a few beers, one thing lead to another and Gina and Dru are on the run from marshall and headed to a happy ending.

Finally a book that doesnt sugar coat it and Jason Myers tells it how it is. Real life tragedy, a modern day Romeo and Juliet.
Mar 25, Julie rated it did not like it. It reads like a year-old boy wrote it after having his first girlfriend for a week, in my opinion.
The language is immature and I felt like I was reading bad fanfiction throughout the entire book. Furthermore, the storyline is highly unrealistic and underdeveloped, with plot holes destroying the story.
Jun 28, Brooke rated it did not like it. I actually finished this. I felt that the young lovers, Dru and Gina, were unbelievable and the dialogue was corny.
All of the characters were stereotypical indie movie types, and it truly felt like this author tried too hard to be edgy, shocking, and brutal.
Yes, some might be surprised to find this on a YA shelf but it really is a very easy read, and a sloppy one at that.
All of the fucks and pussies were unnecessary as well I w I actually finished this.
